The geodetic measurements find significant imbalance in the water cycle budget in Australia over 2010–2015. Plain Language Summary: This study finds how the Australian continent has deformed responding to atmospheric and water cycle changes sustained over periods of long‐term droughts and the heavy precipitation during the La Niña. The majority of the Australian continent was depressed by the La Niña water load in 2010–2011 and slowly rebounded afterward as the water evaporates from the continent. The geodetic measurements (like GPS and Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) find significant imbalance in the water cycle budget in Australia over 2010–2015.]]> Tue 03 Sep 2019 18:30:41 AEST ]]> Mechanical and microstructural characterization of an AZ91-activated carbon syntactic foam https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:35236 -3. The results show that no chemical reaction occurred between the AZ91 matrix and the activated carbon particles. The mechanical properties of the foam were evaluated under quasi-static compression loading conditions, and showed a consistent trend for the energy absorption of the fabricated AZ91-AC syntactic foams. The deformation mechanism of samples was a brittle fracture mode with the formation of shear bands during the fracture of all samples.]]> Tue 02 Jul 2019 15:14:51 AEST ]]> Evolution of mechanical parameters of deep sandstone and its constitutive model under the condition of different stress paths https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:41206 Thu 28 Jul 2022 11:26:20 AEST ]]> Shear banding analysis of geomaterials by strain gradient enhanced damage model https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:639 Thu 25 Jul 2013 09:10:35 AEST ]]> Left atrium function and deformation in very preterm infants with and without volume load https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:43241 Thu 15 Sep 2022 10:10:25 AEST ]]> Physical modelling of lateral sand-pipe interaction https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:39477 Thu 09 Jun 2022 10:25:20 AEST ]]> An experimental study of the fracture coalescence behaviour of brittle sandstone specimens containing three fissures https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:20450 2 on the peak strength, peak strain and crack initiation stress of the specimens. To confirm the sequence of crack coalescence, a photographic monitoring technique is used throughout the entire period of deformation. Based on the results, the relationship between the real-time crack coalescence process and the axial stress–strain curve of brittle sandstone specimens is also developed, and this relationship can be used to evaluate the macroscopic deformation characteristics of pre-cracked rock. The equivalent strain evolution fields of the specimen, with α = β1 = 45° and β2 = 90°, are obtained using the digital image correlation technique and show good agreement with the experimental results of pre-cracked brittle sandstone. These experimental results are expected to improve the understanding of fracture mechanisms and be used in rock engineering with intermittent structures, such as deep underground excavated tunnels.]]> Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:06:58 AEDT ]]> A theoretical and experimental study on the behaviour of lignosulfonate-treated sandy silt https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:19211 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:55:04 AEDT ]]> A constitutive model for coal-fouled ballast capturing the effects of particle degradation https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:16879 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:54:47 AEDT ]]> Analysis of transient behaviour in the dense phase conveying of powders https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:5890 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:48:42 AEDT ]]> Bifurcation analysis for shear localization in non-polar and micro-polar hypoplastic continua https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:277 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:43:01 AEDT ]]> Dynamic strength of liquid-bound granular materials: The effect of particle size and shape https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:290 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:42:50 AEDT ]]> Application of bounding surface plasticity concept for clay-fouled ballast under drained loading https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:22848 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:16:03 AEDT ]]> Behaviour of clay subjecting to vacuum and surcharge loading in an oedometer https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:23678 w, defined as the horizontal effective stress exerted on the wall of the consolidation ring (σhw) divided by the vertical effective stress (σv) in the soil specimen is suggested as an indicator of the tendency for lateral deformation under field conditions. It is observed that if the value of Kw is close to the value of K₀of the soil (the 'at-rest' earth pressure coefficient), there should be very limited lateral displacement in field situations. The laboratory test results show that during the loading process, the value of Kw is mainly influenced by the ratio of the magnitude of the surcharge pressure to the vacuum pressure (RL) and the rate of surcharge loading (SLR). At the end of the consolidation the value of Kw increases with increasing RL, but it is almost independent of SLR for the conditions investigated. In the presence of a vacuum pressure, at the end of consolidation the value of Kw is usually less than the original value of K₀ of the soil. The test results also indicate that Kw has a strong correlation with the synthetic non-dimensional loading parameter, RLS, as defined by Chai et al. (2013), which includes the effects of RL and SLR as well as the consolidation properties of the soil. It is suggested that the parameter RLS can be used to predict lateral displacements under field conditions that involve combined surcharge and vacuum pressure loading.]]> Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:13:57 AEDT ]]> An experimental investigation of the catalytic activity of natural calcium-rich minerals and a novel dual-supported CaO-Ca12Al14O33/Al2O3 Catalyst for Biotar Steam Reforming https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:47208 Mon 29 Jan 2024 17:45:48 AEDT ]]> A comparison between Philips and Tomtec for left ventricular deformation and volume measurements in neonatal intensive care patients https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:42822 Mon 05 Sep 2022 11:49:26 AEST ]]> Surface mass variation on the solid earth inferred from GPS deformation time series and GRACE gravity field measurements https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:36497 Fri 22 May 2020 15:40:04 AEST ]]>
